The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) recently expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration to enhance the quality of senior secondary education in Abuja.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, NSSEC Executive Secretary Dr Iyela Ajayi described the engagement as a strategic move to deepen partnerships and promote accessible, quality education.

Ajayi emphasized that senior secondary education serves as a “vital bridge between foundational learning and future opportunities,” highlighting NSSEC’s recent achievements, including, Development of Minimum Standards for Senior Secondary Education, Formulation of the National Policy and Implementation Guidelines, Creation of a 2024–2027 Strategic Plan/Roadmap, Ongoing monitoring and evaluation across all six geopolitical zones, and Upgrade of 50 schools, including some in the FCT.

Ajayi commended the FCT for its strong educational infrastructure and proposed collaborative efforts in areas such as Provision and maintenance of learning facilities and laboratories, Teacher training and professional development, Implementation of STEAM and technical/vocational education curricula.

He expressed confidence that the NSSEC–FCT partnership could serve as a national model. In response, Dr Hayyo welcomed the collaboration, affirming the FCT’s commitment to excellence in senior secondary education. He stressed the importance of accurate data for planning and pledged cooperation in policy implementation, quality assurance, and efforts to reduce school dropouts.

“This kind of federal-state collaboration was rare in the past, but it’s now producing positive outcomes,” Hayyo added.
