The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has announced the immediate suspension of all academic activities following a violent incident at the male students’ hostel and a protest that turned unruly. The decision was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the institution’s registrar, Kasimu Salihu, who disclosed that unidentified attackers invaded the hostel, stealing valuables and injuring about two students.

According to the registrar, the incident sparked outrage among students, who gathered at the polytechnic’s main gate to demand swift action from management. He noted that principal officers and senior staff promptly arrived at the protest ground to engage with the students and address their concerns.

However, Salihu explained that the demonstration was soon hijacked by hoodlums “who do not mean the students and the institution well,” turning what was intended to be a peaceful protest into a more volatile situation. This escalation, he said, posed risks to safety and order on campus.

“In view of this ugly situation, management hereby orders the immediate closure of academic activities. By this order, students are given two hours within which to vacate the polytechnic campus, until further notice,” the statement read. The closure is expected to remain in effect until normalcy is restored and security concerns are addressed.
