The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that two students of a higher institution in Iree were hospitalised following a violent cult clash that erupted on September 8, 2025. The incident, which disrupted academic activities on campus, involved suspected members of the Buccaneers confraternity and a rival cult group who engaged in a gun battle. Police said the injured students are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that six suspects had so far been arrested in connection with the clash. He explained that operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit responded promptly to distress calls, arresting three suspects at the scene while three others were picked up the following day. Ojelabi assured that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are completed.

In a separate development, the command also arrested a suspected robber, Johnson Olagoke, alleged to have conspired with others still at large to attack commercial motorcycle riders in Ile-Ife. According to the police, Olagoke and his accomplices lured unsuspecting riders to an isolated area, where they were beaten, dispossessed of motorcycles, cash, and phones. Exhibits recovered included two Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers KJA 543 and BDG 556 QN.

Ojelabi said discreet investigations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit revealed that Olagoke was involved in two separate attacks in August, where victims were brutalised and their valuables stolen. He added that efforts are underway to apprehend his fleeing accomplices. The police reiterated their commitment to combating cultism and violent crimes in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
