The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced a ban on all social activities on campus beyond 6 p.m. following the tragic killing of a guest during a student event.

In a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu, the university said the decision was taken in response to the incident of September 12, when a businessman, Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death. Nweze was attending a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies when the gathering reportedly turned violent.

According to the university, the event was hijacked by miscreants from a nearby community who instigated the violence. In light of this, management directed that all future social activities must be held only during the daytime and under the strict supervision of the University Security Unit.

“The safety and security of our staff, students, and visitors remain paramount. UNN is fully committed to providing a safe learning and social environment and will take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,” the statement assured.
