The Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) has announced the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Olaseinde Bello as the maiden chairman of its Medical Advisory Committee (MAC). The appointment, made by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, marks a significant step in strengthening the hospital’s clinical administration. The committee will oversee the Directorate of Clinical Services, one of the three main directorates governing federal teaching hospitals across the country.
Dr. Bello, a seasoned Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, brings to the role a wealth of experience in both clinical practice and medical education. He holds a medical degree from the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and completed his residency training at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, where he later earned his fellowship with the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics. His appointment is expected to contribute to the hospital’s vision of delivering world-class medical services.
A pioneer member of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital following its establishment, Dr. Bello also previously served as Head of the Paediatrics and Child Health Department at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. Beyond his clinical and teaching responsibilities, he has played active roles in various committees, including the Infection Prevention and Control Team and the Hospital/Community Liaison Committee. He is widely respected for his research contributions, with several publications in leading Nigerian and international medical journals.
