Sokoto Government Suspends Six Principals Over Misconduct

The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has suspended six school principals over alleged insubordination and unauthorised collection of fees linked to Junior Secondary School examination results. The suspension, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, took effect on Monday.

Those affected include principals of Nana Girls Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gagi, GDSS Mana, Giginya Memorial College, Mana Basic Secondary School, and GDSS Silame. According to the ministry, the action was taken to curb administrative misconduct and enforce discipline within the state’s education sector.

To investigate the matter, the commissioner inaugurated a five-member committee headed by Professor Mustapha Namakka Tukur. Other members include the Executive Secretary of AIEB, the Director of Quality Assurance, the Director of Planning (Teachers Service Board), and another Director of Quality Assurance, who will serve as secretary. The committee is expected to probe the allegations and make appropriate recommendations.

Meanwhile, the ministry has directed all suspended principals to hand over their administrative responsibilities to their respective Vice Principals (Administration) without delay. Professor Ala reiterated the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency in the education sector, stressing that any act of misconduct would be met with strict sanctions.
