Sixty-eight inmates of the Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service have recorded success in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations, in what has been described as a remarkable milestone in the state’s prison education programme.

The achievement, announced in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Musbahu Lawan, came under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, an initiative fully sponsored by the Kano State government to rehabilitate inmates through formal learning.

Lawan noted that the outcome reflects the goals of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises reformation and reintegration of inmates through academic and vocational training. He said the success proves that education remains a powerful tool for transformation, even within correctional facilities.

Controller of the command, Ado Inuwa, commended the inmates for their dedication, describing the feat as a “remarkable achievement.” He added that the programme is in line with the directive of the Controller-General of Corrections, Selvester Indidi Nwakuche, who has encouraged all correctional centres across Nigeria to enrol inmates in learning and skills-based programmes to prepare them for meaningful reintegration into society.
