Wema Bank has celebrated outstanding educators across Nigeria at the “2025 Wema at 80 Teachers’ Day Campaign,” recognising and rewarding teachers who have made remarkable contributions to shaping generations of students. The event, held at the bank’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos, marked a highlight of Wema Bank’s 80th-anniversary celebrations, with over ₦4.5 million in prizes awarded to exceptional teachers.
The ceremony, themed “Celebrating Teachers with a Legacy of Impact,” showcased Wema Bank’s ongoing commitment to promoting education and honouring those who inspire change through teaching. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described teachers as the “unsung heroes” behind every great achievement, commending their resilience and dedication. “Today, we are honoured to celebrate our educators — the teachers who have impacted lives and communities. This initiative reflects Wema Bank’s enduring investment in education and social impact,” he said.
Among the top honourees were Abraham Ngobiri, founder of Teens-Train, who received ₦2 million; Mrs. Esther Babasola Adesada, founder of Heritage X Foundation, who received ₦1.5 million; and Ms. Taiwo Alabi, founder of Educycle, who received ₦1 million. Ngobiri, known for mentoring and counselling teenagers, expressed gratitude to Wema Bank for recognising educators. “For many years, teachers have given their all quietly. This recognition makes us feel seen and valued,” he said. Adesada described the award as a “huge motivation,” while Alabi noted that the honour “represents every teacher who wakes up daily to inspire the next generation.”
The 2025 edition of the campaign invited students and alumni nationwide to share 80-second video tributes celebrating unforgettable teachers. Out of hundreds of submissions, ten teachers were shortlisted, with three emerging as overall winners after a rigorous judging process. The initiative underscores Wema Bank’s belief in the transformative power of education and mentorship.
Since its inception, the Wema Teachers’ Day Campaign has evolved into a nationwide movement, investing over ₦20 million in prizes and mentorship programmes. The initiative has impacted more than 3,000 students and 10 schools, reaffirming Wema Bank’s legacy of community empowerment and commitment to building a stronger future through education.
