Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wednesday submitted a proposed N1.36 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kano State House of Assembly, describing it as a strategic blueprint to consolidate ongoing projects and accelerate growth across key sectors.
Titled “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development,” the proposal is anchored on completing legacy projects, nurturing human capital, and strengthening systems for long-term development. The total budget is N1,368,127,929,271, with N934.64 billion (68%) allocated to capital expenditure and N433.48 billion (32%) earmarked for recurrent expenditure, reflecting the administration’s focus on growth-driven investments.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that the Economic and Social sectors received the largest capital allocations, with Education, Health, and Infrastructure topping the chart:
- Education: N405.35 billion (30%)
- Health: N212.25 billion (16%)
- Infrastructure: N346.28 billion (25%)
Other sectors, including Agriculture, Water, Security, Commerce, Investment, Women and Youth Development, Tourism, Environment, Climate Change, and Transport, also received significant attention in the proposal.
The governor noted that over 80% of the administration’s development blueprint had been implemented, and stressed that the 2026 budget is “a covenant with the people,” designed to transform Kano into a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous state. He urged the lawmakers to ensure timely passage, emphasizing that their oversight and cooperation are critical for effective implementation.
Governor Yusuf commended commissioners, MDAs, development partners, and civil society groups for contributing to the budget formulation process, and prayed for Allah’s guidance in its implementation, reaffirming his commitment to transparent and accountable leadership.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Jibrin Falgore, assured the governor of the legislature’s commitment to timely passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill. He praised the governor for remarkable strides in infrastructure development, security, healthcare delivery, and educational reforms, and pledged continued partnership to ensure ongoing projects are completed and new initiatives adequately funded.
Falgore also emphasized the assembly’s readiness to provide effective oversight and support policies aimed at driving sustainable growth and development in Kano State.
