The Anambra State Police Command has heightened security presence across schools, churches and communities as part of proactive measures to prevent possible threats following a surge in insecurity in parts of Northern Nigeria.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu. He said security had been strategically reinforced to ensure a safe environment for learning, worship and daily community activities.

The CP commended the growing vigilance and unity among residents, noting that Ndi Anambra had continued to show strong cooperation and a collective commitment to safety. He said such synergy significantly strengthened the command’s efforts to maintain peace across the state.

To sustain the enhanced security posture, Orutugu directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to step up patrols, expand intelligence-driven operations and deepen collaboration with community stakeholders for seamless coordination.

He assured residents of the Command’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property, stressing that police strategies would continue to evolve in response to emerging threats while preserving the state’s increasing atmosphere of peace.

As part of broader community policing efforts, the CP also met with a high-level delegation from Aguleri Community at the Police Headquarters in Awka over the weekend. He praised the community for its support in intelligence sharing, conflict prevention and sensitising youths on peaceful conduct.

Both parties discussed measures to further strengthen security, including improved communication channels, community engagement programmes and joint initiatives aimed at crime prevention.

The meeting ended with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and sustain the state’s growing tranquillity.
