Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has once again drawn international attention after one of its alumnae, Dr. Temitope Adeniyi, emerged as the only Nigerian among 100 scientists globally honoured by UNESCO—a feat that underscores the university’s growing reputation for academic excellence and global relevance.
Dr. Adeniyi’s recognition, recently highlighted in a feature titled “Why She Emerged as Only Nigerian Among 100 Scientists Honoured by UNESCO – US-Based Scientist,” has continued to attract widespread national and international acclaim, positioning UNIOSUN as a breeding ground for world-class scholars.
Confirming the development, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, described the honour as a proud moment for the institution. He noted that Dr. Adeniyi, formerly known as Temitope Bolaji Odeyomi before marriage, is a distinguished alumna and an active member of the UNIOSUN Alumni Association.
She graduated from Osun State University in 2015 with a Second-Class Upper Division, a reflection of the academic discipline and excellence that marked her early career. Dr. Adeniyi was trained in the Department of Physics with Electronics, where her undergraduate project was supervised by Professor Olusegun Alabi, a respected scholar in the department.
According to the university, the solid academic foundation she received at UNIOSUN played a crucial role in shaping her research journey, which has now culminated in prestigious global recognition by UNESCO for her contributions to science.
Reacting to the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, described the honour as a strong validation of the university’s vision and academic philosophy.
“This achievement is a testament to the quality of teaching, mentorship, and research culture at Osun State University,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “Dr. Adeniyi’s success affirms our commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also capable of competing and excelling on the global stage.”
The university further described Dr. Adeniyi’s journey—from an undergraduate student at UNIOSUN to a United States–based scientist celebrated by UNESCO—as a powerful source of inspiration to current students and young researchers across Nigeria.
