The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the temporary suspension of the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Ekiti State.
The Board disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explaining that the decision was taken to allow for the restructuring of examination towns within the state.
According to Benjamin, the move is aimed at ensuring that candidates are assigned to examination centres closer to their locations, thereby reducing transportation difficulties and stress on examination days. He noted that while candidates are ordinarily permitted to choose examination towns nearest to them, the 2026 UTME registration process commenced before certain structural anomalies were identified in Ekiti’s examination town configuration.
He explained that the anomalies made it necessary for the Board to carry out urgent adjustments in the overall interest of candidates. As a result, the selection of examination towns in the state has been temporarily suspended to allow for the required corrections.
Benjamin assured candidates and stakeholders that the measure is a proactive step by JAMB to improve the conduct of the examination and enhance candidates’ overall experience, adding that the suspension will be lifted once the restructuring process is completed.
