Egbin Power Plc is extending its impact beyond electricity generation, this time powering lives through technology, with the launch of a digital Egbin Power Lights Up Futures with Digital Skills Programme for Host Communities Epowerment programme for youths in its host communities of Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan.
The tech-driven initiative, introduced under the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) efforts, aims to equip young people with practical digital skills that can boost employability, spark entrepreneurship and open doors to opportunities in today’s fast-growing digital economy.
Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, said the programme underscores the company’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, stressing that its role in the community goes far beyond keeping the lights on.
“In today’s digital age, technology is no longer optional but a critical driver of economic inclusion and growth,”
Bounour said, noting that without deliberate efforts to close digital gaps, development risks becoming uneven and unsustainable. He explained that the empowerment programme was created to tackle this challenge directly by giving young people access to in-demand digital knowledge and hands-on experience that can translate into real economic opportunities within their communities. The first cohort of participants, drawn from Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan, is undergoing structured training covering ICT fundamentals, graphic design, full-stack web development, digital marketing, cybersecurity and data analytics.
The programme blends classroom learning with practical sessions, ensuring participants gain not just theory but usable skills.
Beneficiaries were selected through a screening process designed to identify curiosity, determination and a strong willingness to learn.
Beyond technical know-how, the training also focuses on essential workplace competencies such as ethics, problem-solving, collaboration, professionalism and responsible digital behaviour.
Bounour urged the participants to serve as ambassadors of the initiative, encouraging them to demonstrate integrity, discipline and a spirit of service.
According to him, their success stories will stand as proof that well-planned corporate responsibility initiatives can create meaningful and measurable impact in local communities.
