SERHA Launches Free JAMB Registration for 50,000 Anambra Students
The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) has commenced the registration of 50,000 students across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State under its free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scholarship initiative for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The programme, officially flagged off at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hall along Awka Road, Onitsha, drew students, parents, community leaders, and education stakeholders who lauded the initiative as a timely intervention in the face of rising economic challenges.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere, described the scholarship scheme as part of a broader educational support programme designed to empower young people across the South-East geopolitical zone.
According to Enwere, the sponsorship of 50,000 candidates underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and investing in the intellectual potential of Nigerian youths.
“This initiative is not just about examination registration,” he said. “It is about unlocking opportunities, removing financial barriers, and deliberately investing in the intellectual capital of Anambra State and the South-East at large.”
He noted that many families struggle to afford examination fees, which often deny qualified but indigent students the opportunity to pursue tertiary education. The intervention, he explained, is aimed at easing that burden while ensuring that talented students are not left behind due to financial constraints.
Enwere urged the beneficiaries to see the scholarship as both an opportunity and a responsibility.
“To our dear students, this scholarship is a vote of confidence in your potential. We expect you to prepare diligently, remain focused, and strive for excellence. Let your results justify the investment made in you,” he said.
He further emphasised that the Renewed Hope agenda must translate beyond political rhetoric into tangible programmes that positively impact families and communities.
Education stakeholders at the event commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards youth empowerment and regional development. They expressed optimism that the scheme would boost tertiary institution enrolment and enhance academic competitiveness among students in the state.
With the registration exercise now underway, thousands of students across Anambra’s 21 LGAs are expected to benefit from what organisers describe as one of the largest education-focused scholarship drives in the region’s recent history.
