An aspirant for the presidency of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Opeoluwa Awoyinfa, has outlined his reasons for seeking the position, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring that the voices of students across the country are heard, valued, and respected.

Speaking with reporters, Awoyinfa said his ambition is driven by a desire to empower students and promote a student-focused approach that prioritises their needs within Nigeria’s educational system.

He explained that, if elected, he would work closely with Student Union Government presidents in tertiary institutions to address key challenges affecting students, including rising school fees, inadequate accommodation, and poor learning environments.

According to him, such collaboration would also strengthen advocacy for fair and inclusive education policies, aimed at guaranteeing access to quality education and essential resources for all students.

Awoyinfa stressed the importance of unity among student leaders, noting that a collective front would ensure that students are actively involved in shaping decisions that affect their academic and social welfare.

“As your NANS President, one of my missions will be centred on empowering stakeholders through initiatives that foster sustainable growth and development,” he said.

“I believe in creating opportunities that transcend the confines of our university years, ensuring the empowerment we advocate lasts a lifetime.

“I will be the voice for Nigerian students who feel marginalised and unheard, championing policies that uplift and support our collective interests, while opposing measures detrimental to our welfare.”
