The management of Plateau University, Bokkos, has sanctioned 76 students found guilty of examination malpractice during the 2024/2025 academic session.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the university disclosed that the sanctions were approved by the Senate at its 102nd regular meeting, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Moses Galadima. The decision followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct.

According to the statement, the affected students were apprehended during the second semester examinations and were investigated for various offences. These included possession of mobile phones in examination halls, use of written notes, and inscriptions on parts of the body related to examination questions.

After reviewing the findings, the Senate approved penalties in line with the institution’s students’ handbook. The sanctions range from rustication for one academic session and compulsory carryover of affected courses to outright expulsion in more severe cases.

The university management reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity, stressing that it operates a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice.
