JAMB Reveals Another Compulsory Requirement for UTME Registration; It Takes Effect from January 31

Imo poly graduating student apologises over comment
Ogechi Okoroafor, the graduating student of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, who went viral on social media for saying that she graduated with the help of God and her private parts, has apologised to the institution.
Okoroafor, in a letter to the institution, said she wanted to say her father and God helped her to graduate from the Polytechnic.
The letter, which was written by her lawyer, Ikechukwu Nwaopara, on her behalf said that her client’s comment was a slip of tongue.

Olukoya advises parents to nuture learners
The Visitor and Chancellor, Mountain Top University, Dr Daniel Olukoya, has appealed to parents not to leave the nurturing of their children to tertiary institutions alone.
Speaking in a statement at the 8th matriculation of the institution, Olukoya, said every student who enrolled in MTU for the first time must go through the rites of matriculation and take the matriculation oath, signifying formal admission in MTU.
While advising the parents, he said, ‘‘Let me turn briefly to our parents. First, I congratulate you also because, by reason of your ward’s matriculation, you have become a major stakeholder and friend of Mountain Top University. Whether you are a university graduate or not, pay attention to the work of your wards. Guide them to attain academic and professional excellence. Nurture your wards to bear good fruits. Do not leave them for the university. May you reap the fruits of your labour in Jesus name.’’

Academy offers special payment plan
A software development academy in Nigeria, Zulfah Academy, has offered payment after learning plans to Nigerians.
A statement by the academy explained that it offered special plans for its learners to make learning comfortable for them amid the economic situation in the country.

Poly probes student over sex-for-marks claim
Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, has launched an investigation into a claim made by a student of the institution claiming that she graduated with the help of God and her pussy.
The fair student had after defending her National Diploma project made a live broadcast on her social media handle( Tiktok) thanking God and her pussy for making her a graduate.
The statement had since generated a public outburst with many calling for disciplinary action to be made against her.
Reacting, the school management on Monday announced that it had launched an investigation into the lady’s claim.

Lecturers ask govt to invest in education
Lecturers in tertiary institutions have called on the government to Invest, regulate and supervise the education sector properly.
Some of the lecturers spoke in reaction to the International Day of Education, titled, ‘Invest in people, prioritise education,’ maintained that the education sector in Nigeria would record significant improvement if there was appropriate investment/funding, proper regulation and supervision by the government and stakeholders.
Speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Mr Anderson Ezeibe, explained that the education sector was backward because Nigeria could not compete globally.

Fanfare or funfair?
Funfair and fanfare are homophones but they are hardly synonyms. Homophones are two or more words pronounced the same way but with different meanings or spellings. Examples are insight and incite; clime and climb; as well as sore and saw. On the other hand, a synonym is a word or phrase that has the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or phrase. In this regard, shout, yell, cry, groan and moan are synonyms.
The implication is that in spite of the similarity in the pronunciations of fanfare and funfair, they should not be interchangeably used. Unfortunately, this happens a lot, with experience showing that, often, funfair is erroneously used where fanfare is expected.
