The United Kingdom (UK)’s Department for Education has highlighted the priority subjects for Nigerians and other nationals seeking to come to the country through the Teaching Regulation Agency.
The move is part of the UK education department’s move to develop a fairer approach to awarding qualified teacher status (QTS) to teachers from overseas.
Starting from February 1, 2023, the UK government said some subjects which are much needed in the country will be prioritised.

2023 UTME: JAMB Reveals Another Compulsory Requirement for Registration, Takes Effect January 31
The use of email is now compulsory for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, JAMB has announced JAMB’s head of public affairs and protocol, Fabian Benjamin, said the new development takes effect from Tuesday, January 31 Benjamin also explained why JAMB came up with the new requirement and some of the advantages it will have.

Nasarawa State University recently trended on social media after one of the varsity’s lecturers set an examination question on a popular gaffe made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu had suffered a gaffe as he tried to dismiss some town hall meetings which he did not attend.

Students of various universities who registered for their Permanent Voters’ Cards outside the environment of their institutions might not be able to participate in the 2023 elections.
The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities said shutting down tertiary institutions to avail students of the opportunity to vote during the 2023 elections is not in the purview of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

JAMB to prosecute 34 students, six centres for exam registration malpractice
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has uncovered 34 prospective candidates who connived with Computer Based Test Centers for the purpose of exam malpractice.
The candidates who were registering for the examination allegedly allowed the CBT centre staff to thumbprint forms for them.
One of those apprehended includes a level 5 Law student of the Bayero University, BUK, Kano, who was said to have thumb printed for 14 prospective candidates who plan to sit for the examination.
Velvet Revolution begins in University of Ilorin – VC Wahab Egbewole
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, says he has launched a ‘Velvet Revolution ‘ in the institution aimed at making it one of the best in the world.
At his maiden press briefing held at main campus of the University on Wednesday, to mark his 109 days of his assumption of office, Professor Wahab Egbewole, expressed delight that “the tension within has reduced drastically and our harmony is great.”
According to him, “I have engaged all members of staff the various organs of the University on attitudinal and positive disposition to work.”

On Wednesday, the Corps of Nigerian Commissionaires, CNC, Nigerian Region Oyo state school crime prevention units and other stakeholders held a workshop on crime management in Secondary schools in Oyo state.
The event, which was held at the premises of the I.M.G Basic School, Eleta, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was well attended by security agencies, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo state chapter, representative of the Oyo State ministry of education, parents and community leaders who came together to discuss on crime management in schools.
Speaking at the event, Oyo State commandant, Corp of Nigerian Commissionaire, CNC, Dr. Orebiyi Adewole, explained that the event was organised to reach out to people to understand the implications of criminal activities in schools.

Many stranded as EKSU students protest fare hike
Students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday staged a protest against the increase of transportation fares by drivers in the State.
The protesting students armed with placards with different inscriptions barricaded the university gate for several hours with lecturers and other non-teaching workers stranded.
Some of the inscriptions read, ‘Akoto don cost pass my school fees’; ‘We are not Federal Government, stop exploiting us’ and EKSU give us shuttle, it’s our right we paid school fees’.

Alleged impersonation: ICPC to prosecute final year law student, 5 others — JAMB
The Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede has ordered some computer-based JAMB registration centres in Kano, to produce a final year law student and five others for allegedly involved in impersonation and other crimes which were against the rules and regulations of the agency.
Professor Oloyede who gave the order on Wednesday during his inspection of some computer-based registration centres in the State, said that the above six people, engaged in thumbprint for several candidates and would be prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission ( ICPC)
Lagos unveils new unified schemes of work for schools
The Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, unveiled a new scheme of work for secondary school students in the State.
The new package comprises the reviewed work carried out by the state government on the old syllabus and blends it with the national curriculum provided by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The state has equally launched some specialised mobile learning devices and e-books on core subjects also for secondary schools.

Toyin Falola donates over 500 books to Kaduna varsity library
Professor Toyin Falola of the University of Texas at Austin has donated books in different fields of study to the Kaduna State University library for the second time.
The books were presented to the Pro-Chancellor, Mallam (Dr) Husaini Adamu Dikko and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Musa of the university on Monday, in the university library.
While presenting the books on behalf of Prof. Falola, the Director, Centre for Gender Studies, KASU, Prof. Hauwa’u E. Yusuf said the donor has been a friend of the University since the year 2008.

Management of Taraba State University (TASU) has released an important notice to all final year students in the institution. The notice reads;
This is to inform all the students (currently in the final year and spill over) that the Vice-Chancellor has graciously approved a SPECIAL EXAMINATION for those that failed (CO) the course tittled Peace and Conflict Resolution with the code GST 305. The import for this approval for the special examination is to allow the students that are “carrying over” the course to write it in the first semester of 2021/2022 and clear it once and for all. This gesture is also to afford all the spilled over students to graduate in the first semester of 2021/2022 instead of waiting to write the (GST 305 Peace and Conflict Resolution) in the second semester as GST 304 (Peace and Conflict Resolution).
