Worried by the continuous spread of fake news and its effects on the society, media professionals and communications scholars have called for responsible use of social media to prevent the growing cases of fake information.

According to them, fake news has a direct link to the pervasiveness of social media and digital technology. Speaking at the lecture held in honour of Doyin Mahmoud, the founding Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, the Weekend Editor of The Guardian, Dr Kabir Alabi Garba, expressed concern that social media have become veritable channels for the spread of fake information.

Teach for Nigeria graduates fifth cohort of Fellows

Implements 87 projects in 121 schools across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states
Teach for Nigeria (TFN), a non-profit organisation focused on improving foundational learning outcomes and expanding life opportunities for low-income children across Nigeria, recently graduated its fifth cohort of 197 outstanding change makers.

The 2023 graduating class implemented 87 “Be The Change” projects, aimed at addressing some of the challenges affecting quality education delivery in their schools and communities.

Ex- Sokoto Gov sponsors 600 indigent students for higher education

As education ministers assume duties, students demand end to strikes

The newly sworn-in Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mammam, and the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, have assumed duties, expressing commitment to revamp the troubling education sector.

‘Nigerian students facing hardship in Northern Cyprus’

The Global Non-Governmental Organisation Executive Committee has revealed some of the challenges threatening the peaceful existence and education of Nigerian students in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Director, GNEC, Mrs Olasubomi Iginla-Aina, during a media chat last Wednesday said that based on findings during her visit to Northern Cyprus and interaction with Nigerian students there, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive on transfer policy was the major challenge the students were facing.

UNICAL to recall students lists sent to law school by suspended prof

The management of the University of Calabar has said it will recall the lists of students sent by the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law of the university, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, to the Nigerian Law School in the last two years for scrutiny.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Florence Obi, revealed this to the press Monday.
