FCT NUT suspends strike for 6 weeks following Wike’s intervention

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory Wing, has suspended its ongoing strike for six weeks following the intervention of the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike.

Lagos varsity integrates Yoruba language in curriculum for cultural preservation

Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has taken a significant step towards preserving and encouraging the use of the Yoruba language.

Group revives moribund school in Benue

A group known as Masev Development Association (MDA) in Gwer East local government area of Benue State, have donated three blocks of four classrooms to resuscitate the moribund Masev community secondary school.

Inaugurating the classroom blocks at the weekend, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Gwer East/Gwer West federal constituency, Hon. Asema Achado Bit represented by Peter Pevigyo commended the association to revive the school and urged Masev sons and daughters to ensure that the school did not go moribund again. TETFUND commissions N4.5bn educational projects in Gombe varsity

Educational facilities and equipment, including structures worth the sum of N4.5 billion, executed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), have been commissioned at Gombe State University (GSU), Gombe.

While speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Architect Sonny Echono, stated that since the university was established in 2004, it was enlisted as a beneficiary of TETFund’s interventions in 2006. 16,260 out-of-school girls to get education incentives in Bauchi

A total of 16,260 girls in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Bauchi state are to enjoy conditional cash transfers to motivate them to attend classes and graduate under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.

Make books, educational materials accessible to visually impaired persons, NCC urges stakeholders

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has called on publishers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that books and educational materials are made in accessible formats to visually impaired persons (VIPs).

Gov Inuwa to expand infrastructure of Gombe varsity

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has announced plans to collaborate with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) to improve the infrastructure of Gombe State University (GSU) and other state-owned institutions thereby fostering a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Only 38 female VCs have headed Nigerian varsities since 1960 – Committee of Vice-Chancellors

The Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Yakubu Ochefu, has disclosed that, “Only 38 out of the over 720 individuals who have held the position of vice chancellor in the Nigeria University System since 1960 are women.”

Obaseki to extend teachers’ retirement age to 65

Education Commission to set minimum standards for English, Mathematics teachers

The Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, Dr Iyela Ajayi, said the commission is working towards collaborating with other agencies such as the National Commission for Colleges of Education in a bid to set minimum standards for teachers of English Language and Mathematics in secondary schools across the country.
