The Benue State Police on Wednesday confirmed the kidnapping of two female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM). The incident occurred on Saturday night along the road leading to the university.

Witnesses reported that the students were abducted around 11 pm along the North Bank/UniAgric road. According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, the kidnappers blocked the road, accosted the victims, and whisked them away before security operatives could respond. The identities of the students have not been disclosed.

SP Anene confirmed that the families of the victims and university authorities have notified the police. She assured that an investigation into the kidnapping is already underway. “We are doing everything possible to ensure the safe return of the students and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Anene stated.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Lucy Iwodi, Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations at JOSTUM, indicated that she had not yet received the necessary permission from the university’s administration to comment on the situation.
