Lagos – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has praised the administrative prowess of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), and her management team for fostering peace, tranquility, and uninterrupted academic programs at the institution.
Speaking at the grand finale of LASU’s 27th convocation held at the Buba Marwa Main Hall, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his satisfaction with the university’s achievements over the past four years. He noted that LASU, rated the best state university and the most digitally operated higher institution in Nigeria, has maintained continuous academic sessions and held convocations consistently.
“As a visitor to the university, it is crucial to recognize the enduring importance of education as a major tool for addressing societal needs and human development,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He commended LASU’s dedication to ensuring that education remains a vital tool for societal development.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering students in state-owned tertiary institutions, aiming to foster a generation of innovative thinkers and leaders who will drive sustainable development in Lagos State. He encouraged LASU undergraduates to remain diligent and motivated, applauding their enthusiasm for academic excellence which has earned the university numerous laurels.
During the convocation, 11,195 graduates from the 2022/2023 academic session were celebrated. Among them were 554 Diploma students, 8,477 First Degree students, and 2,164 postgraduate students. Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the university’s resilience and dedication to academic excellence, noting the quality of graduates produced annually.
“I am proud to note that recently, the state appointed ten LASU Law alumni as Judges of the Lagos High Court,” he added, emphasizing the university’s accomplishments and its national and global recognition.
Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a cash gift of N10 million for Olaniyi Mubaraq Olawale, the best graduating student for the 2022/2023 session, as a recognition of his outstanding academic feat.
The governor also outlined ongoing and future investments in the university, including the expansion of university infrastructure, new academic programs, and the development of on-campus residential options. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing financial and logistical support to ensure LASU’s continued growth and success.
