The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that 67.61% of new voters in Edo and Ondo States are youths, females, and students. This data was collected during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the governorship elections.

According to INEC, the registration, which ended on June 9, 2024, saw 269,992 new voters. Of these, 52.13% are female, 47.87% are male, and 35.36% are students. Additionally, 0.59% are Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The next step involves displaying the voter register for claims and objections for seven days starting June 12, 2024.

This display will occur in all 395 Wards across the two states and online. Citizens can report any ineligible names and request corrections. Following this period, INEC will use the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to clean the register. The final voter list will be published after this process, and dates for new PVC collection will be announced. The Edo governorship election is on September 21, 2024, and Ondo’s on November 16, 2024.
