SOKOTO – The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof. Yusuf Saidu, has been killed by suspected bandits. Prof. Saidu, who served as the DVC of Research, Innovation, and Development, met his untimely death on Monday while traveling from Sokoto to Kaduna.

In a statement, the university management confirmed the tragic news, stating, “The death has occurred of Prof. Yusuf Saidu, the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation and Development, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.” The statement detailed that Prof. Saidu was attacked and killed by bandits during his journey.

The university expressed deep sorrow over the incident, highlighting the late professor’s remarkable qualities. “Prof. Saidu was a man of integrity, religion, dedication, and courage,” the statement read, underscoring his significant contributions to the institution and the academic community at large.

Describing his demise as a “painful loss,” the university mourned the passing of a respected and esteemed member of its academic staff. The tragic event underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and the devastating impact on the educational sector.
