A faction of the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education (SSUCOEN) has protested against the provost of  Federal College of Education, Technical, (FCET) Dr. Azeez, arguing that his term ended following amendments to the Educational Colleges Act in 2023, which introduced a single five-year term for college principals.

Despite assertions from Dr. Azeez that he was reappointed before these amendments took effect, protests have persisted, culminating in the occupation of his office and disruptions to college operations.

Efforts to resolve the dispute have included interventions by the Ministry of Education, which affirmed the legality of Dr. Azeez’s continued tenure.

The outcome of ongoing discussions and any subsequent actions by the Ministry of Education will be crucial in determining the future stability and operational effectiveness of FCET Akoka.
