The United Kingdom aims to ensure all Nigerian children have access to quality education, according to acting British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever. Speaking at the “Repositioning Education in Kano State: Navigating the Path to Excellence” conference in Kano, Lever reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the Kano State Government in overcoming significant educational challenges.

The conference, responding to the recent declaration of a state of emergency in education, gathered stakeholders to develop sustainable and scalable solutions for improving Kano State’s education sector. This collaboration demonstrates the state government’s readiness to work with partners to address the learning crisis and ensure sustainable access to quality education.

Since 2021, the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) programme has supported Kano State by developing policies, plans, and training for head teachers and teachers to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality foundational learning. Lever expressed pride in the UK’s broad partnership with Nigeria, highlighting education as crucial for human capital development and supporting Kano’s priority to address the education emergency.
