During Nutrivision 2024 in Abuja, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, criticized Nigeria’s low tax collection rates, which he said hinder financing for crucial sectors like health and education.

Gates expressed optimism about Nigeria’s agricultural potential, suggesting that with better credit facilities, soil surveys, and farmer advisory services, Nigeria could shift from a net food importer to a major food exporter. He highlighted that enhanced agricultural productivity could significantly boost the economy and improve rural incomes.

He emphasized that improved tax revenue and effective management of health funds are essential for building trust in government programs and prioritizing primary healthcare.

Furthermore, Bill Gates advocated for leveraging digital technologies and advanced seed varieties to achieve an agricultural transformation, addressing both economic and nutritional challenges across Nigeria.
