Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has raised the hazard allowance for resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso and settled seven months’ worth of arrears from January to July 2024.

Dr. David Olaniyan, President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the facility, confirmed the updates following a BusinessDay investigation that highlighted the inadequate N5,000 hazard allowance and challenging conditions faced by health workers.

The governor’s intervention has significantly increased the hazard allowance, with amounts now ranging from N25,000 to N35,000, depending on the doctor’s role and seniority. The move has been welcomed by the health workers, who view it as a positive step towards addressing their concerns.

While the health workers expressed gratitude for the governor’s actions, they are also calling for further support to meet their remaining demands. Olaniyan emphasized that while the adjustment is appreciated, additional measures are necessary to ensure continued quality service delivery.
