Fatima Musa, a deradicalized former Boko Haram member now resettled in Mafa, Borno, expressed deep regret for destroying her National Certificate of Education (NCE) after being misled by insurgents.

Speaking at a community dialogue organized by the Allamin Foundation with UKaid support, Musa shared her journey of realizing the misinterpretation of Islam used to justify her past actions.

Musa, along with other repentant women, revealed that they were misled by distorted religious teachings and now feel remorseful. She disclosed plans to seek forgiveness from her father and expressed a desire to make amends for her past actions. Another repentant, Bintu, called for support for deradicalized individuals and highlighted the challenges they face, including stigma and harassment, which can drive some back to insurgency.

Babagana Butu, leader of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Mafa, noted that some former insurgents are now integrated into the task force and are provided with farmland for cultivation. He appealed for continued government support and empowerment programs to help these individuals reintegrate successfully and contribute positively to their communities.
