In a statement issued by Abdulkadir Mohammad, the Kano zonal coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), ASUU criticized the failure of university administrations, governing councils, and state governors to adhere to regulations and protect the rights of staff.

ASUU condemned the victimization, intimidation, and harassment of its members at several public universities. Mohammad cited specific cases of mistreatment, including the unjust dismissal of 120 ASUU members at Kogi State University (KSU) since 2017, and similar issues at Lagos State University (LASU), Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).

He highlighted wrongful dismissals and suspensions, particularly in KSU and LASU, for advocating better working conditions.

ASUU is determined to use all legal channels to reinstate dismissed members and resolve issues related to promotions, unpaid salaries, and the respect of fundamental rights. Mohammad called on university authorities and state officials to address these grievances urgently and to uphold the rights and freedoms of ASUU members.
