A building collapsed during a heavy downpour on Saturday morning in Benin City, Edo State, trapping several University of Benin (UNIBEN) students.
The incident occurred on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin, an area known for student housing.
According to a student, a university rescue team has managed to extract some of the trapped occupants, though several have sustained severe injuries. The injured have been transported to the hospital for treatment.
Rescue operations are still ongoing, with efforts focused on locating one victim who remains trapped in the rubble and has been pleading for help from inside the building. The Dean of Students is on-site coordinating with the university team, but the university has yet to release an official statement on the cause of the collapse or the total number of affected individuals.
