Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Abuloma in Port Harcourt triumphed in the 2024 Education Champions League (ECL), receiving a grand prize of N10 million.

The ECL competition, aimed at enhancing literacy among Nigerian youths and rewarding literary talents, saw 16 schools from the state compete, with FGGC Abuloma emerging as the winner over Seacrest Preparatory School (N5 million), Aladumo International Schools (N2.5 million), and Enitonna High School (N1.5 million).

Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the competition’s sponsor and Accord Party governorship candidate, expressed a commitment to educating future generations. Reflecting on the importance of quality education, Lulu-Briggs noted that economic disparity often limits access to educational resources. He urged for a broader inclusion of local schools in future editions to bridge this gap.

Mr. Wenenda Wali, an ECL organizer, detailed the award’s distribution: half to the students, 25% to school management, and the remaining 25% for purchasing books. He encouraged more public schools to join, emphasizing that private sector involvement can drive educational initiatives effectively.

Representing FGGC Abuloma, Ebere Oroma Lee celebrated the school’s achievement, urging young people to value their education despite claims that it no longer yields returns. Lee, along with Lulu-Briggs, encouraged students to persevere academically, applauding all participants for their dedication to learning.
