Professor Eunice Folake Ojo, the first woman to reach professor status in the Animal Production Department at the University of Ilorin, has revolutionized local poultry production with her research.

Through innovative breeding techniques, she developed high-performing hybrids by crossbreeding Fulani Ecotype chickens with Dominant Black strains, resulting in chicks that surpass local varieties in egg output and plumage quality.

Ojo, presenting her work at Unilorin’s 268th Inaugural Lecture, emphasized the urgent need to conserve Nigeria’s indigenous poultry genetics. Her research provides critical insights for breeders, promoting sustainable poultry production and addressing protein needs for a growing population.
