The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) strike has halted academic activities at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) College of Health Sciences, sparking fears over final-year medical exams and accreditation.

The strike, triggered by grievances including discriminatory vice-chancellor appointments and non-implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for clinical lecturers, follows an expired 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government.

OAU MDCAN leaders, Dr. Olufemi Ogundipe and Dr. Tajudin Adetunji, affirmed full compliance, stating lecturers would not resume until CONMESS is applied universally.

The association warned unresolved issues could jeopardize accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and disrupt the future of over 100 final-year medical students.

MDCAN has called on the Federal Government and OAU management to urgently address these concerns to prevent further harm to medical education.
