A deadly explosion occurred at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, on Monday, January 6, claiming two lives and leaving two others injured. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh, remnants of the device were recovered by the bomb squad, and preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, with the explosive device.

Two of the suspects died while tampering with the device on the school’s veranda, while the third suspect and a female trader sustained severe injuries. Both injured individuals are currently receiving treatment under police guard. Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue. The police assured the public that further findings would be communicated in due course.

FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu called for public vigilance and urged residents to report any suspicious activity or items resembling IEDs to the authorities. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety and preventing similar incidents. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Kuchibiyu community, with residents demanding improved security measures in the area.
