Authorities at the University of Ilorin have issued a stern warning to Dr. Wale Fasakin, former President of the institution’s Alumni Association, to desist from parading himself as the Association’s leader. The university clarified that Dr. Fasakin’s tenure ended in 2021 following a resolution by the Association’s Congress, which subsequently inaugurated a new executive committee led by Prof. Abdulrazaq Olubusuyi Kilani.

Speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Kunle Akogun, condemned Dr. Fasakin’s actions, including a recent unauthorized visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, under the guise of representing the National Executive Committee of the Unilorin Alumni Association. Akogun described these activities as misleading and detrimental to the unity of the Association.

Akogun explained that following the end of Dr. Fasakin’s tenure, a Caretaker Committee was established to oversee the Association’s affairs until August 2024, when a new leadership was elected during the Association’s Congress. He reiterated the university’s commitment to preserving the unity and harmony of the Alumni Association, emphasizing its vital role in contributing to the institution’s growth and development.

The university has urged Dr. Fasakin to cease all representations as the Association’s President. Additionally, Akogun called on corporate organizations, government officials, and other stakeholders to refrain from engaging with Dr. Fasakin in any capacity related to the Alumni Association. He stressed that the management would continue to promote peace within the Association while ensuring that only legitimate representatives speak on its behalf.
