Sixty-four schools from Warri and neighboring areas in Delta State are gearing up to participate in the 2025 Ogiame Atuwatse III Intercollegiate Quiz and Debate Competition. This maiden edition, introduced by His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, carries a grand prize of N10 million, underscoring the monarch’s commitment to advancing education in the region. The competition was announced last October through Prince Collins Edema, His Majesty’s Sole Representative Liaison to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Addressing the press at Nana College, Warri, Prince Edema emphasized the monarch’s vision of fostering education among children in Warri Kingdom and Delta State. “The education of the Warri child, and indeed the Delta child, is dear to the heart of His Majesty,” Edema said. He conveyed the Olu of Warri’s gratitude to educators and students for their enthusiasm in participating in the competition, which will focus on science subjects and current affairs.

The competition, set to run from January to June 2025, will see the 64 participating schools divided into 16 groups, competing across eight rounds. According to the Quiz Project Lead, Coker Tuoyo, this initiative aims to nurture young minds and inspire academic excellence. Alongside the grand prize, participants will receive additional gift prizes, making it an enriching experience for all involved.

This groundbreaking event represents His Majesty’s dedication to youth empowerment and intellectual development. With the competition set to commence, Warri and Delta State are poised for an exciting display of knowledge and skills, celebrating the academic potential of the region’s future leaders.
