The Federal University Gusau (FUG) in Zamfara State has successfully matriculated 2,229 students despite the security challenges affecting the region.

During his address at the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Muazu Abubakar, disclosed that out of the 5,066 candidates who applied for admission, only 2,229 students were successfully matriculated. He highlighted that, in adherence to the federal government’s policy, science-related courses had the highest number of students, with 1,030 admitted into various science programs.

Professor Abubakar urged the newly matriculated students to remain vigilant and security-conscious as they navigate their academic journey. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest security agents or the appropriate university authorities.

“I want to assure you that your security and privacy will be guaranteed,” the Vice-Chancellor reassured the students. He, however, warned that the university would not tolerate any form of indiscipline or misconduct from students.

“The university authorities will not take lightly any student found guilty of examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, theft, drug abuse, or other forms of social immorality,” he stated.

Professor Abubakar further reminded the students that penalties for such offenses were clearly outlined in the students’ handbook. He reiterated that only those who are formally matriculated would be recognized as bonafide students of the institution.

“It is also critical for you to note that degrees are conferred only on graduates who are found worthy in both character and learning,” he said.

He concluded by reminding the students that between matriculation and convocation, they would face several academic and personal challenges, but overcoming these would ultimately earn them the right to wear the academic gown at graduation.
