The Oyo State Government has appealed to striking teachers to reconsider their position and return to classrooms, while announcing the approval of N8.7 billion for the procurement of learning materials to strengthen the education sector.
The government said the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions across public schools in the state and address key concerns affecting the education system.
Officials noted that the approved funds will be used to provide instructional materials, support classroom activities and enhance the overall quality of education delivery in primary and secondary schools.
The state government expressed concern over the disruption of academic activities caused by the strike, warning that prolonged closure of schools could negatively affect students and the academic calendar.
It urged the striking teachers to embrace dialogue and engage relevant authorities in resolving outstanding issues, stressing that the government remains committed to workers’ welfare and educational development.
According to the government, continuous investment in the education sector is a priority, adding that recent approvals demonstrate its determination to improve infrastructure, learning resources and the welfare of teachers.
Stakeholders in the education sector have also called for urgent resolution of the dispute, warning that students are the most affected when academic activities are interrupted.
The government reaffirmed its readiness to sustain engagement with teachers’ unions in order to ensure a stable and productive education system in the state.
