Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has received a major boost in academic and workforce development, with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) sponsoring no fewer than 185 teaching and non-teaching staff for various training programmes aimed at strengthening the institution’s capacity.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, disclosed this during a news conference ahead of the university’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremony held on Tuesday in Yola.
He revealed that beyond the 185 beneficiaries already supported, several other staff members are currently undergoing both local and international training as part of the university’s broader reform and development agenda.
According to him, staff welfare and professional growth remain central to the university’s vision. He noted that the management has introduced a range of support measures, including interest-free loan schemes and financial assistance to families of staff who die while in active service, describing the initiatives as vital steps toward building a motivated and secure workforce.
On academic achievements, Prof. Umar announced that a total of 7,094 students would be graduating during the combined convocation. The breakdown shows 116 students earned First Class honours, 1,798 made Second Class Upper, 2,978 obtained Second Class Lower, 809 graduated with Third Class, while three students recorded Pass degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to the National Universities Commission (NUC) for approving 20 new academic programmes for the institution, a development he said would expand learning opportunities and align MAU more closely with evolving national and global demands.
As part of activities lined up for the convocation, Prof. Umaru Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, is scheduled to deliver the pre-convocation lecture, setting the tone for the milestone celebration.
