ProU deepens support for Nigerian students, launches online college

One of Africa’s higher learning institutions, ProU Education Nigeria, has unveiled an online college to provide job-ready certificates for Nigerian students.

The online college, established in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with accreditation from EduQua, a body recognised and supported by the Swiss Confederate Government, is aimed at making the transition from schooling to professional life smooth.

Nigerian graduate wins five scholarships in the U.S.

A Nigerian graduate and creative writer, Samuel Felix Ekanem, has been admitted into five universities in the United States on a fully-funded scholarship for the Master of Fine Arts in creative writing.
Apart from the 100 per cent tuition waiver, each of the universities has also offered Ekanem a graduate fellowship, which entitles him to an annual stipend throughout the duration of his programme.

New curriculum will boost employability skills, NUC assures

The Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris Maiyaki has disclosed that the new Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) would address skills gap and make Nigerian graduates employable.
Maiyaki noted that the new CCMAS is premised on the understanding that the university system is the bedrock of intellectual and socio-economic progress of any nation.

Gombe Gov pledges continued investment in education

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has promised to continue with the rigorous reforms in the Educational sector embarked upon by his administration with a view to improving the overall developmental prospects of Gombe State.

Anambra govt rejects WAEC’s fine for schools linked to exam malpractice

The Anambra State Government has turned down the demand by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) that 70 post-primary schools pay a fine of N500,000.00 each for their involvement in alleged examination malpractices.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that last year the examination body flagged 70 schools over malpractices and withheld the results of the students.

UI to hold maiden international food, drugs fair

AS part of the efforts to foster the food, beverages and drugs industries, the University of Ibadan (UI) Ventures Limited, in conjunction with A-Z Exhibition Ventures, has concluded plans to hold its maiden international food, beverages, and drugs fair and exhibition.
The Acting Managing Director of the University of Ibadan Ventures Limited, Mr Francis Akingbade, at the press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Press Centre, recently, told newsmen that the one-week programme billed to commence from October 16 to 22, will project the progress the industries had recorded and proffer ideologies for an overall development.

TETFund to deploy blackboard learning system to institutions

THE Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has concluded plans to deploy a learning platform known as the Blackboard Learning System to provide access to online academic resources in universities and other tertiary education in Nigeria.
Accordingly the Fund has organised a three-day workshop on the theme ‘The Implementation of the Enhanced Blackboard Learning Management System and Train The Trainer Programme’ in Abuja for Directors of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from various institutions across the country.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cautioned managements of various federal universities in the country not to victimise any student who objects to fees hike and publicly condemns the policy.

The students’ body, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Giwa Temitope, said the warning became necessary following alleged victimisation by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) management of a 400-level political science student of the school, Mr Obinna Ezechukwu.

NUC set to boost access to varsity through transnational education
