Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by the Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, Adamawa State, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to governance, public service and humanitarian development across Nigeria.

The honour was bestowed at the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies of the university, following the unanimous approval of the institution’s Senate and Governing Council. The award of Doctor of Humanities (Honoris Causa), according to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, represents an academic salute to a public career marked by integrity, inclusion and measurable societal impact.

Prof. Umar described Governor Otu as a leader whose influence transcends office and geography, noting that his style of leadership reflects compassion, responsibility and a deep commitment to humanity. He said the governor’s approach to governance aligns strongly with the core values of Modibbo Adama University, particularly in promoting social development, national cohesion and institutional strengthening.

“Governor Otu has consistently demonstrated that leadership is not defined by authority alone, but by service to humanity,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that the honour was reserved for individuals whose lives and work leave lasting positive footprints in society.
