The Federal Government has disbursed a total of ₦195,434,250 under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to 6,279 students of Sule Lamido University, Kafin-Hausa, Jigawa State.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, disclosed this during a press briefing ahead of the institution’s second combined convocation ceremony held at the Senate Building in Kafin-Hausa.
He explained that the funds were released in eight batches between December 2025 and March 2026, with the first tranche recording the highest number of beneficiaries. According to him, 3,384 students received ₦104,706,000 in that initial disbursement on December 18, 2025.
Subsequent batches included 765 students who received ₦24,099,000, while 510 students got ₦15,512,750 in another round of payments. He added that 1,066 students benefited from ₦33,578,250 in the fourth batch, with additional smaller disbursements made between February and March.
Prof. Yakasai also revealed that a total of 4,109 students are graduating from the institution at the convocation, noting that the university continues to expand its academic offerings and infrastructure.
He said the institution has introduced postgraduate programmes and upgraded its School of Preliminary Studies into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education. Plans, according to him, are also underway to establish a College of Medicine to further broaden academic opportunities.
Speaking on infrastructural developments, the Vice Chancellor highlighted ongoing construction of academic buildings, student hostels, a modern library, road networks, specialised research centres, as well as advancements in ICT, digital transformation, and the adoption of solar energy solutions to improve sustainability.
He, however, appealed to the Jigawa State Government for additional staff and accommodation to maintain quality teaching, research, and service delivery amid growing student population.
“As our student population continues to grow, we appeal for additional staffing and accommodation support from the Jigawa State Government to sustain quality teaching, research and service delivery,” he said.
