President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh set of appointments across key education agencies, a move aimed at strengthening institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments affect major bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the current Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will continue in his role. Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and past chairman of NBTE, is expected to bring significant administrative experience to the council.

In the technical education sector, Prof. Babatunde Salako has been named Chairman of NBTE. Salako previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, bringing a strong background in research and institutional leadership.

The President also confirmed the earlier reappointment of NBTE’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term, ensuring continuity in the board’s ongoing reforms.

In the polytechnic system, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, for a single term of five years. He succeeds the pioneer rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Binfa previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and has lecturing experience at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

Meanwhile, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed for a final five-year term. First appointed in September 2021, Anunobi has overseen key reforms, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.

The presidency noted that her reappointment will ensure continuity in ongoing modernization efforts, as well as the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.

The appointments are part of broader efforts by the administration to reposition Nigeria’s education sector through experienced leadership and sustained institutional reforms.
