The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has inaugurated a team of Digital Champions as part of efforts to drive technology-driven reforms and strengthen the delivery of basic education across Nigeria.
The initiative is aimed at promoting digital innovation, improving data management, enhancing teaching and learning processes, and supporting the ongoing transformation of the basic education sector.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, UBEC officials said the Digital Champions would serve as key agents of change, helping to integrate technology into education administration and classroom activities across states and local government areas.
According to the commission, the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging digital tools to improve access to quality education, increase efficiency, and support evidence-based decision-making in the sector.
The Digital Champions are expected to facilitate the adoption of digital solutions, provide technical support, strengthen capacity building, and encourage the use of technology to address challenges facing basic education.
UBEC noted that the initiative would also enhance the collection and management of education data, enabling policymakers and stakeholders to make informed decisions that improve learning outcomes and resource allocation.
The commission emphasized that digital transformation is essential for preparing learners and teachers for the demands of the modern world and ensuring that Nigeria’s education system remains competitive in an increasingly technology-driven global environment.
Stakeholders at the event commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward modernising basic education and expanding opportunities for learners across the country.
UBEC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with state governments, development partners, and other stakeholders to promote innovation, strengthen educational institutions, and ensure that every child has access to quality basic education supported by modern technology.
The inauguration of the Digital Champions marks another milestone in the commission’s efforts to build a more efficient, inclusive, and technology-enabled basic education system capable of meeting the needs of 21st-century learners.
