Parents Commend Bauchi Senator for Paying UTME Fees for 150 Science Students
Some parents in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State have commended Senator Shehu Buba, who represents Bauchi South in the Senate, for paying the 2023/2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) fees for 150 science students in the area.
The parents made the commendation in Toro yesterday at the end of the Computer Based Test (CBT) training, organised for the students by the senator.
According to them, the gesture would not be easily forgotten as it came just at the time they were struggling to make ends meet, and could hardly sort for the payment.
Borno Leaders Reject Planned Army Varsity Merger with NDA
The Borno Concern Citizens (BCC), has expressed its displeasure to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly, over federal government’s plan to merge the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna. The Borno elders said doing so would be counter productive.
The BCC has consequently written President Tinubu and the National Assembly leadership through the committee set up by the federal government to implement the Oronsaye report.
JAMB Registrar Advocates Agricultural Development to Tackle Hardship
The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has called for huge investment in agriculture in the country. He said the move would further attract a productive population and reduce the scourges of insecurity and cybercrime perpetrated by Nigerian youths.
He also stressed the urgent need for the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the agricultural sector and allow more funding to end hardship, unemployment and poverty among the youth.
Oloyede said the present agricultural practice, which relies on traditional implements and annual rainfall, is not profitable and cannot encourage the Nigerian youth to engage in farming to tackle the country’s hardships.

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola has restated his determination and commitment to making the institution a first class university in Nigeria and globally.
Babalola stated this at the opening ceremony of a two-day Faculty Advancement and Success Training Series on ‘Modern Teaching Methods and Pedagogy’, organised by the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Smaranda Olarinde.
Addressing journalists, the legal icon expressed confidence in the university lecturers, describing them as intellectual teachers whose ways of impacting knowledge into students are extraordinary and second to none.
Nine-year-old Encourages Children to Invest More Time in Reading
A grade four pupil of Hampton Preparatory School, Lekki, Master Osaivbie Izedonmwen, 9, is setting a goal to read 200 books this year, with the aim of instilling the reading culture in children.
In January, Izedonmwen started a challenge of reviewing the books he had read via his Instagram page, ‘Read with Us’, and even took it a step further by organising a book and toy donation drive.
Supported by his elder brother, Oghosa,12, Izedonmwen went to his cousin’s church on Easter Sunday and donated over 100 books to children to encourage them to invest more time in reading.

Osun State government announces new retirement age, length of service for teachers
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has unveiled the new retirement age for teachers in Osun public schools, setting it at 65 years old, with a corresponding length of service requirement of 40 years.
He reaffirmed the importance of adhering to approved guidelines as a prerequisite to enjoy the new retirement age and length of service.
In a circular issued by Mr. Ayanleye Aina, the Head of Service, on Tuesday in Osogbo, the governor emphasized the need for strict compliance with the outlined guidelines.
FG announces scholarship awards for Nigerian tertiary students, sets criteria
The federal government of Nigeria has announced its scholarship awards for tertiary students in the country. The announcement was made by the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday night, April 2, 2024, in a statement signed by Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Borno police arrest eight over UNIMAID lecturer’s murder
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects in connection to the alleged murder of a Lecturer at the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri, Dr Kamar Abdulkadir.
Abdulkadir was murdered in his office on campus on Sunday. The victim was found on Monday with several injuries inflicted on his body by his killer.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nahun Daso, told newsmen that the attackers also carted away the lecturer’s vehicle, phone, and laptop.

Again, Nigerian govt threatens to deal with fake degree holders
The Federal Government has once again said security agencies will go after individuals with fake university certificates in the country.
The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, said this during the first quarterly citizens and stakeholders’ engagement in Nigeria’s education sector on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, there would be transformation in the education sector with the unveiling of a 13-pillar roadmap.
UNILORIN expels 6 final year students, 13 others over multiple offences
The University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Kwara State has expelled and rusticated 19 students, including six final-year students of the institution, for their alleged involvement in various offences.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University, Kunle Akogun, on Monday.
The approval of expulsion/rustication of the affected students by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole, SAN, was recommended by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting.

Cross River suspends 31 principals for WAEC exams racketeering
Having being accused of exams racketeering and doctoring of the 2024 WAEC students’ lists dubiously executed to embezzle parts of the fund earmarked for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams by the State, the Cross River State Government has suspended 31 principals of some public secondary schools in the State.
The principals were suspended by the State Government following the rumour making round that some Public secondary school principals had inflated the lists of students meant to attempt the 2024 WAEC exams, prompting the immediate investigation and security reports which eventually nailed 31 suspended principals.

300 Athletes, 225 Schools Set For MTN Champs Continental Relays In Ibadan
The Lekan Salami Stadium and University of Ibadan Sports Complex will be a hive of activity when MTN CHAMPS Ibadan takes off April 5 to 8, 2024 in Ibadan, Oyo State, with nearly 3000 athletes expected to compete at the event.
As of 1st April 2024, 6499 event entries were received from 2636 athletes across 153 Secondary Schools and 128 Junior and Senior Teams, and the final list of registered athletes is attached below:
