An X user known as Justus, who goes by the handle LordJustusN on X.com, has raised concerns about the dire state of Eni Njọkụ Hostel at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Justus took to X.com to share his dismay after visiting the hostel to inspect the room assigned to his cousin, only to discover shocking conditions.
In a video shared on the platform, Justus expressed his frustration, writing, “My cousin is supposed to resume school at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He paid for the hostel, and I went there today to check it out…This is what I saw. Eni Njọkụ Hostel. When I asked, they said it’s not swine that lives there. I don’t know who to curse, but u are cursed!”
He further revealed that when he attempted to enter the room assigned to his cousin, it was locked, unlike other rooms. Upon inquiry, neighboring students explained that the locked room was reserved for officials of the Student Union, implying that it was considered the best room.
Following Justus’s post, numerous students and alumni shared their own harrowing experiences of living in the hostel.
Urch d’ billionaire, a user known as #ruby_darl on X.com, commented, “I studied in UNN, and I can tell you for free that more than 80% of guys live off-campus because boys’ hostels are a mess…That room you’re seeing might end up having up to 14 guys in it. I usually wondered how they survived those hostels.”
Similarly, alZ, tweeting anonymously as #automatedLZ, shared, “This one nah duplex nah compared to wetin I don see for that UNN.”
Emeka Ikeche, using the handle #EmekaIkeche, remarked, “Exactly how it was 13 years ago.”
Adding to the conversation, Emma.Ai, identified as #EmarhNFT, recalled a discouraging experience when considering admission to UNN. “I stayed with a friend in the hostel for two days, and I just told myself that nothing would ever make me study at this university,” they shared.
Chidozie, known as #okorochidozie1 on X.com, echoed the sentiment, describing Eni Njọkụ Hostel as the worst in UNN, particularly highlighting the ground floor’s conditions. “We pimped the room, contributed money, changed the curtain, painted the room, and put a floor rug. We made it conducive to living in,” they disclosed.
The collective outcry underscores the urgent need for attention to the deteriorating conditions of student accommodations at UNN and highlights the challenges faced by students living in substandard facilities.
