The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has announced plans to reinforce the commission’s zonal and state offices to ensure effective supervision and monitoring of Universal Basic Education (UBE) projects.

Speaking at a two-day management meeting in Abuja, Bobboyi emphasized that strengthening these offices is essential to prevent substandard project execution and improve overall efficiency in delivering basic education.

Bobboyi expressed concern that many zonal and state offices had become incapacitated, with their responsibilities gradually centralized at UBEC headquarters. This shift, he noted, led to poor project monitoring, inaccurate reporting, and payments for incomplete or shoddy work, negatively affecting the commission’s operations and staff morale.

To address these issues, UBEC plans to reorganize its structure and empower its field offices to work closely with state governments. Bobboyi stressed that the collaboration would help ensure UBE funds are judiciously utilized, maintaining project standards and ensuring that no child is left behind in the country’s efforts to combat the out-of-school-children crisis.
