The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna South, following a detailed report from the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND led by Senator Mohammed Dandutse Muntari.

Senator Dandutse emphasized that the proposed institution would focus on equipping graduates with practical and theoretical knowledge to address challenges in productivity, data management, and economic growth. He noted that the university’s establishment would also contribute to reducing criminal activities and fostering national integration among young Nigerians.

The bill, initially sponsored by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung of Kaduna South, received widespread support during a public hearing in May 2024. Following the committee’s recommendation, the Senate has now approved the bill to move forward, aiming to enhance technological and scientific development in the region.
