The Federal Government has expressed concern over the declining public interest in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), resulting in low enrollment in technical schools across Nigeria.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja for the Technical Teachers Training Programme (TTTP), Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, identified key challenges such as outdated curricula, obsolete equipment, poor teacher remuneration, and limited enrollment of girls. He attributed the decline to inadequate legislation and lack of political will.

Mamman emphasized the need to equip technical teachers with modern skills to prepare students for the 21st-century workforce, aligning with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He assured stakeholders of the government’s commitment to revitalizing technical education.

Adenike Muyibat Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education, highlighted the evolving role of technical teachers in guiding students towards acquiring globally relevant skills. The TTTP aims to strengthen science, mathematics, and vocational education by developing skilled teachers through continuous training.
